CHESS NextGen Accountable Care Organization Achieves Shared Savings

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced the 2017 performance year results for the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Model. The CHESS NextGen, LLC ACO (CHESS NextGen) saved $4.3 million in 2017, while achieving an overall quality score of 97.94%. CHESS NextGen participation in 2017 was the second performance year and included the providers from Cornerstone Health Care.

Across the nation, 45 ACOs participated in the NextGen model during the 2017 performance year.  The model sets predictable financial targets, enables providers greater opportunities to coordinate care for beneficiaries, and aims to attain the highest quality standards of care. It allows provider groups to assume higher levels of financial risk and reward than are available under the current Medicare Shared Savings Program. The goal of the model is to provide strong financial incentives for ACOs, coupled with tools to support better patient engagement and care management, in order to improve health outcomes and lower expenditures for Medicare beneficiaries.
